Why Coming From Where I Came From Motivates Me To Play Basketball

A little girl named Diana and her twin brother; Stephen was adopted from Bulgaria at the age of two. Their dad is a huge fan of sports, but nothing can beat the love and true passion he has for basketball. When Diana and Stephen were about 4 years old, they joined a Catholic Church Basketball league that led to Diana finding her love for basketball, just like her father.

When Diana started getting older, her passions for sports have grown stronger and stronger. In middle school, she played 3 sports each year; Volleyball (Fall), Basketball (Winter), and Soccer (Spring), while also maintaining to play in a local basketball organization throughout the summers.

When she was in High School, Diana started thinking about her future, college. She told her parents about wanting to play basketball in college so that she could potentially get a scholarship. Diana soon started seeing a personal basketball trainer 2-4 times a week even after her high school basketball practices.

Unfortunately, in Diana’s senior year, she tore her meniscus during one of the games and was unable to play for a while after that. Ever since that happened, she decided to find other hobbies or interests for herself. But since basketball was her true passion, she couldn’t stop the urge to pursue her love for basketball.

Diana has always had an interest for helping the planet so one day, Diana thought of an imaginative idea that led her to still continue to “play” basketball, in a non-competitive way. She came up with a venture that will not only contain basketball, but also to help the planet. Her venture is called, “Sustaina-Baller.” Since Diana is a senior at The Pennsylvania State University, she believed that it would be a great way to reduce trash on campus by providing basketball hoops attached to trash cans and recycle bins! Diana has started producing the hoops and selling them in local stores; Walmart and Target so that even younger kids can learn how to throw away their trash and how to become more sustainable, while also having fun with it!

Diana can easily say that her father is one of her biggest role models and she is thankful that her dad shared his passion with her! She is now living her best life and saving the planet one day at a time while also sharing her story and having fun.
